Recently Gary Stoller from USA Today wrote an article about the vacation rental industry. Impressed by Rentalo and its large inventory of properties and ease of use, Gary decided to use Rentalo as the starting point for his article. He interviewed several of our property owners in order to grasp a better understanding of the industry. Bob Singer, a Rentalo customer, goes on to say that “the internet is the only way I can make a buck”. Singer invest most of his advertising dollars in Rentalo.com because of the great success that he has had with it over the years. All his properties are Sponsor properties, which maximize his return on investment due to its many benefits.

Dont you just wish you could add a video of your vacation rental property in your property ad page? Well NOW YOU CAN! and best of all its free!
If you have a video of your vacation rental property (and we strongly recommend that every property owner have one), then you can showcase your video in your property ad so that travelers can see it right then and there.
Today’s internet users are growing more and more accostumed to online videos. As a matter of fact, it is changing the way that many traditional markets do business. Think about, most news media websites now offer free streaming videos of their websites. Some folks dont even watch the news on tv anymore!
Having a property video can give you a great competitive advantage. If a traveler is deciding between a couple of vacation rentals and yours is the only one that has a video, there is a good chance that they would be more interested in your property.
To ad your online video, simply record a short video of your property in a digital camera. Once you have the video in your computer you can upload it to an online site like http://youtube.com or http://video.google.com and then use the code they provide to insert your video in the rentalo page.
Once you have the code log in as a property owner, click on properties, select your property and click on Video. You will see the space to ad your property video there.
If you need any help, our friendly staff is ready to assist you, simply contact us by clicking help.

It’s Time to Rent a House for a Family Christmas GetawayRentalo’s Prices Make Vacation Rentals Possible in Any Destination
Miami, Florida, September 27, 2007—Tired of the same old, same old Christmas at home? Why not rent a house big enough for the family to have all the comforts of home, plus a fun destination. The web site www.rentalo.com makes it easy to find the perfect house—for a price that’s amazingly affordable. Rentalo, the leading travel lodging and vacation rental web site, can even answer special requests through its “submit inquiry” feature, putting travelers directly in touch with property owners. Affordable villas, houses and even apartments are available all over the
U.S.,
Canada,
Mexico, the
Caribbean,
Europe and the most popular destinations in the rest of the world. For example:
Paris House $257 per night What could be more perfect than Christmas Week in Paris, where shops and hotels glow with holiday decorations, the Champs Elysées and the Eiffel Tower sparkle with lights, and ice skaters twirl in front of the city hall. Oriane de Vallée is a beautiful four-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath loft house set on its own little private street right in the center of
Paris. A true haven in the midst of the city’s hustle bustle, this vacation rental is located within walking distance of
Montmartre, Place Clichy and Batignolles, and the nearest metro stop is only steps away. Among its added attractions are a laundry room and an office with a computer and DSL Internet. The minimum rental is one week and the price per week is $1,800, which breaks down to $257 per night for a family or group of eight.
Orlando Villa $130 per night Give the kids a thrill and take them to Walt Disney World, which goes overboard with Christmas decorations and fun. Just five minutes from Disney World Rentalo offers a three-bedroom luxury villa that welcomes children and pets. This Orlando vacation home rental, which costs only $130 a night (with a five night minimum), is located off Route 192 in a resort complex with heated pool, tennis courts and a clubhouse that provides an exercise room, pool table and snacks. It has everything a family needs: a crib, two TVs, a fully-equipped kitchen, and a full-size washer and dryer. The villa is close to restaurants, shows, shopping and golf courses, and is only 10 minutes from Universal and Sea World.
Vail Townhouse $450 per night This snow-covered ski resort looks like a Christmas card picture at this time of year, and a family that likes to ski will like a four-bedroom, four-bathroom Vail townhouse with updated décor and sunny exposure. Three of the four bedrooms have twin beds, so the kids can even bring their friends along. The living area has a wood-burning fireplace and faces south to a mountain meadow where the kids can go sledding. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are also possible on a nearby golf course, and there’s an athletic club just 50 yards from the front door that has a lap pool, two hot tubs, a sauna and showers. Beaver Creek is a little over a mile away and downtown Vail is a fast eight-minute drive. Ice skating as well as skiing is available in both resorts and the famous
Colorado ski resorts of
Copper
Mountain, Breckenridge and Keystone are all an easy drive away. The house costs $450 a night (with a seven night minimum) during the holidays.
Cape Town $480 per night December is summertime in South Africa and Christmas in Cape Town means sunning, swimming, dining outdoors on the V&A Waterfront or even a safari. The Colony, with its six bedrooms and six baths, is so roomy even the grandparents and friends can come along. This beautifully restored two-storey villa in downtown
Cape Town has a view of
Table
Mountain from its several balconies and patios. Decorated in African contemporary style, it is secured by an alarm system, has a pool with recliners, a spacious living/dining area with terrace access, a modern kitchen, garage and high speed Internet. The house is serviced five times per week, but additional housekeeping and babysitting can be arranged. At $450 a night, the price per person comes to $37.50, a bargain in any language. There is wildlife viewing in the vicinity and the house is within 10 minutes drive of the Table Mountain Cable Car,
Camps
Bay beaches and the V&A Waterfront.
Rentalo links those seeking rental accommodations to property owners in 15,000 destinations. There is no cost involved. Using the web site is easy: It shows details and photos (and sometimes videos) of each rental property. Its “quick search” feature is even easier; it matches properties with the traveler’s criteria—destination, type of rental, dates and price. Visitors to the web site can find hotels, motels, inns, lodges and Bed and Breakfasts in addition to vacation rental villas and apartments, and can browse the whole worldwide database.

Everyday more and more travelers realize the benefits of staying at a vacation rental rather than a hotel.
I was at a party the other day and was talking to friend about how different it is when you stay in a home. He was telling me that when he goes to Orlando Florida with his family, he always stays at a vacation rental and not a hotel. In Orlando you can find great vacation rentals with kitchens, private pools, hot tubs, private garage… so much more than a hotel!
Europeans are also thinking twice about staying at hotels and looking at vacation rentals as great alternative to lodging.
The New York Times just released and article were they recommend Rentalo.com as a great source to connect property owners with travelers (under “Think twice about hotels”).

Excerpt from the article:
A survey of members of the Vacation Rental Managers Association found that their inventory of United States homes was up by 12 percent this year, said Michael Sarka, the association’s executive director. And new rental listings are up about 20 percent from last year at Rentalo.com, an online search engine that connects travelers directly to property owners and managers. The uptick in inventory means renters have more room for negotiation. Horacio Artiga, 31, a professional dog walker from Washington, was able to reduce the price of a two-week June rental of a four-bedroom house with an eight-person hot tub in the Outer Banks by $600 just by asking for a better deal. One tip: Factor in rental fees and taxes before making an offer and you are much more likely to stay within your rental budget, Mr. Artiga said.read full article

Perhaps one of the questions that we get asked the most by property owners all the time is: “How do I get more bookings?”.
I thought I would share a few tips that property owners have found to work to keep their property booked. Many of them only use Rentalo.com as their only listing site.
Tip #1 First Impressions
You know the old saying that you never get a second chance to make a first impression? Well it could not be any more true in the internet world. Statistics show that an average internet user will spend around 6 seconds deciding if a page is relevant to their search. With such a small window of opportunity, it is crucial to make a good first impression.
Make sure your main picture (your first one in your images page) is an eye catcher. Look at the pictures that other property owners are using and compare it to yours. Show others the page and don’t tell them which one is yours and ask them which pictures calls their attention the most and why. A good title is second in line to your main picture. Use words that travelers want to hear and stand out from the competition. Also make sure the text you write in the top of your description entices travelers to click more.
Many property Owners choose to become Sponsor Listings because it guarantees first page placement. Contact Us to find out more about the Sponsor Program
Tip # 2 Early Bird gets the worm
Normally a traveler will choose a few properties and inquire on them. Most property owners respond “right away” to their inquiries – so they think… What many of us don’t realize is that email is not always instantaneous. There may be delays from the moment a person submits an inquiry to the moment they actually get your response, even you answer “right away”. Most of the factors involved in the process are completely outside of your control and of rentalo’s control. What if you could answer the traveler immediately after they hit the SEND button of their inquiry… Well, you can! That is what Rentalo’s Auto Offer feature does. If the traveler’s inquiry has an exact or very close match with your properties criteria (rooms, availability, price, etc), then why not offer it immediately to the traveler? Travelers call Rentalo all the time and most of the time we help them find properties in just minutes using this tool. To find out more about the Auto Offer feature visit our Tutorials page and click on the Auto Offer Tutorial.
Tip # 3 Go and get them! Why wait for travelers to find you when you can go and find them? Travelers love to get specials and discounts and love to explore new locations. Rentalo’s Special Offer tool allows you to enter a Special Offer for your property and automatically enters you into the Best Value Accommodations Newsletter. This newsletter is sent to travelers interested in your area and has a reach in the thousands. That means that you have the potential to show your property to thousands of travelers in a month.
